For over 50 years we have prided ourselves on handmaking as many of our products as possible, using the very best ingredients the industry has to offer while maintaining many traditional methods in baking.
We are a family run business in the heart of Leigh on sea Essex.
We see our community as our extended family and have always endeavoured to do our very best to serve our customers with good quality bakery products both in the retail and wholesale elements of our business.
We offer a wide range of freshly made products in store, baked daily on the premises. We have ever changing lines to offer, and we try our best to incorporate innovative and new ideas with past and traditional values some of which have been passed down through our family for three generations.
We can put that finishing touch on a special occasion with our beautiful handmade, hand decorated celebration cakes, we cater for parties, buffets, office lunches and funerals. Our sour doughs, multi seed, brioche and speciality bread and rolls, beautiful afternoon tea boxes, freshly made filled rolls and sandwiches and hot savoury snacks are just a snippet of what we produce.
The Home Made Bakery was established in 1971 by Mr Ken Flanagan and his wife Aileen. Their four children, Karen, Julie, Giselle and Karl, were all at school, ages ranging from six to fourteen.
Karen was the first to join her parents in the bakery, shortly followed by Julie and then Giselle who were both involved in making the celebration cakes. Karl followed his sisters sometime later into the bread baking side of the production. Since the death of their father on Christmas Eve 2003, Karen Dann is the Managing Director of the business and with the help of her husband Dave, a Director, they run the business and Karl, also a Director runs the bread baking side of the business and is head of a team of skilled master bakers.
Sadly we lost Aileen at Christmas time 2019, together Karen and Karl still run their beloved bakery with the help of Karen’s three children Shelley, Sunny and Summer.
Our cakes make any special occasion extra special! They’re great for holidays, graduations or any special event. We make each cake with care and attention to detail, so they taste really good. We use the best ingredients, so they’re moist and flavorful. You can choose from lots of designs and flavors, like chocolate, vanilla, raspberry or lemon.
